Stacia Nelson, Founder & CEO
Stacia Nelson is the Founder of Pivot Strategies. Stacia brings over 15 years of experience in Public Relations and Communications with Fortune 100 brands. She specializes in creating unique and tailored communications strategies to deliver messages to a variety of stakeholders. She has worked in retail, healthcare, manufacturing, and politics covering topics ranging from global security, crisis management, recalls, sourcing, sustainability, government relations, new product launches, brand marketing and strategic partnerships.
Prior to founding Pivot Strategies, Stacia led the Crisis and Corporate Communications Team for Target Corporation where she was responsible for the company’s preparedness and response to reputation and crisis situations and corporate brand partnerships. Prior to Target, Stacia led the Public Relations and Strategic Partnerships team at Cambria and was the Director of Education & Workforce Development and Healthcare Policy at the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce.
Stacia earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Psychology and Spanish from Hamline University and a Master of Public Policy in Applied Economics from the University of Minnesota. Stacia lives in Minneapolis with her husband and two children.
Tom Hesse, Vice President of Operations
Tom Hesse brings 20 years of experience in government affairs, public policy research, regulatory tracking, and team leadership. Prior to joining Pivot Strategies, Tom consulted with various corporate and non-profit clients. As the Vice President of Government Affairs for the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce, Tom provided leadership on issues such as tax reform, tort reform, education, energy, health care and transportation policy. Under his leadership, the Minnesota Chamber was named Politics in Minnesota’s 2011 Business Leader in Public Policy.
In his role, Tom leads and coaches the Pivot Strategies team, manages new accounts, manages public policy, and builds business operations. Tom has a Masters of Business Administration degree with concentrations in Corporate Finance and Business Economics from Indiana University and a Bachelors of Mathematics from the University of Minnesota.
Lisa Austria, Communications Manager
Lisa Austria is an accomplished leader with 12 years of experience in project management, internal communications, human resources and product management. She specializes in creating communication strategies for new initiatives such as technology launches, significant changes in employee benefits, and company-wide transformations.
Most recently, Lisa led the communications and change management strategies for Target’s supply chain warehouse management system. She spent over ten years across four different businesses at Target. Prior to Target, she spent some time at Cargill and Deluxe Corporation.
Lisa has a Bachelors of Science in Human Resources and Marketing from the Carlson School of Management – University of MN. She resides in the Twin Cities with her husband, daughter, and two golden-doodles.
Angie Butterbrodt, Director of Communications & Corporate Social Responsibility
Angie Butterbrodt has 15 years of experience building communications strategies, engaging key stakeholders and managing corporate reputation across the legal, food and agriculture, and retail industries including Target Corporation, Land O’Lakes, and Thomson Reuters. She’s known for leading complex projects, fostering collaboration, putting ideas into action and managing flawless execution.
Most recently, Angie managed communications and public affairs at Target Corporation, supporting corporate social responsibility, issues management, and public policy initiatives. She also led Target’s CSR communications efforts, including advising on social and environmental reporting, and producing Target’s CSR report.
Angie studied English at St. Catherine University. She lives in St. Paul, MN, with her husband and two young daughters.
Bonnie Coyer, Creative Manager
Bonnie Coyer brings 10+ years of experience in communications and graphic design in the non-profit and private sector. She specializes in graphic design, branding, project management and organizational processes. She enjoys collaborating with others to create marketing strategies and designs that are clear, consistent and professional. Bonnie has worked on everything from large scale branding and re-branding initiatives to designing brochures and handouts for local events, both in print and digital mediums. Bonnie has also collaborated on projects including media relations, writing and IT communications. Bonnie received a BA from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN.
When she is not using her creativity at work, Bonnie enjoys spending time on the softball field, trying new restaurant hot spots and spending time with her husband and three young children.
Kate Kenevan, Communications Manager
Kate Kenevan specializes in the development and implementation of strategic communication plans to help clients achieve success. Kate partners closely with organizations to understand communication needs by actively engaging business partners and key stakeholders. She brings six years of internal communications, project management and SharePoint creation experience to the team. Kate’s recent focuses have been safety, compliance and IT communication. Prior to joining Pivot Strategies, Kate spent ten years at Target.
Meaghan Lee, Communications Specialist
Meaghan brings a variety of communications experience and Chicago-bred hustle to the Pivot Strategies table. After earning a Bachelor’s of Design from University of Illinois at Chicago, she applied her passion for visual language, copywriting and digital marketing across fields including music, technology, food and real estate.
Meaghan’s chameleonic thinking and inherent enthusiasm fuel her relationship with images and words. At Pivot, she helps clients embolden their communications strategies, amplify their digital presence and explore engagement possibilities.
When not creating at work, you can find Meaghan traveling, tracking down alternative eats and sounds and spending time with her fiancé.
Jennifer Rohling, Vice President of Business Development and Marketing
Jennifer brings 20 years of experience in leading marketing, communications and brand strategies within the financial services and healthcare industries. She is known for building and transforming brands and leading marcomm strategies that result in profitable growth for the business. She has experience driving and instilling the customer experience discipline within organizations.
In her role at Pivot, Jennifer develops new client relationships, oversees existing accounts and provides strategic leadership. She has a BA degree in Communications from Metropolitan State University. Jennifer resides in the Twin Cities with her husband, daughter, and seven dogs, and actively competes in the dog sports of agility and flyball.
Lynnette specializes in sustainability communications, strategy, thought leadership, and stakeholder engagement. She teaches for Boston College’s Center for Corporate Citizenship and is a Senior Fellow of Social Innovation at Babson College’s Lewis Center. As a certified Global Reporting Initiative trainer, she teaches sustainability reporting (materiality, stakeholder engagement and GRI G4) for Boston College. Lynnette spent 17 years at UPS, managing Global Reputation Management, Sustainability Communications, Executive Communications and Public Relations programs. Before joining UPS, Lynnette began her career as a journalist and managed marketing and employee communications for FedEx in the Asia Pacific Region. She spent more than a decade with global public relations agencies, posted in Bangkok, Hong Kong, and around the U.S.
Emily has a passion for organizing and executing on-the-ground grassroots campaigns. From messaging, identifying influencers and implementing strategy, Emily guides clients through the public affairs landscape. In addition, she develops and implements messaging strategies and provides media relations to a wide-range of clients. Emily is a licensed Minnesota attorney, residing in Mendota Heights with her husband and two children.
